One of Africa’s biggest male pageant in the fashion modelling sector,‘Mister Africa International’, is being postponed for the first time since it was launched.
Due to the pandemic which has affected the African continent and the globe.This was announced by the director of the pageant, Ayotunde Twitch during Play Africa Tv’s programme #Thelink.
Ayotunde stated that the ceremony to crown,the 2020/2021 ‘Mister Africa International’ will commence early next year at a later date to be announced soon.
The purpose of the pageant is to empower, young African male models and to promote the continent’s modelling industry Internationally.
Mister Africa International has been running for the past 8 years and has been hosted mainly in Nigeria.
However, due to the pandemic other countries where not able to conduct their local search for their respective candidates for the 2020-2021 pageant.
While other countries such as Zimbabwe,had already provided the name of their ambassador who was to represent the country at the pageant.
Ayotunde, stated further during the interview that the delay of the event will give an opportunity to other directors of the pageant in other countries to conduct proper,pageants which will crown their national candidates.
Previously In 2018 ,Calish Jiwa from Tanzania won the ‘Mister Africa International 2018′ pageant,he received a number of opportunities in the fashion industry such as appearing in various commercial adverts across the continent, he also established his own exclusive shoe boutique and was nominated in the Best Male Model category.
During last year’s Africa’s biggest fashion awards, ”The ‘Abranzy Fashion and Style Awards”, Nigerian model Emmanuel Umoh became the King of the Throne after defeating more than 15 African kings from different countries in becoming the 2019 Mister Africa International.
Emmanuel Umoh who is also Mister Ideal Nigeria,has appeared in different commercial adverts and taken part in the Seychelles Fashion Week,soon after ascending the throne.Aside from crowning the King,and 1st runner up.
The pageant has other categories such as, Best Beach Body,Best Charity and Best Talent.
Several countries in Africa since the pageant emerged have participated.
These countries include;South-Africa,Zimbabwe,Burundi,Kenya,Nigeria,Somalia,Sudan, Zambia,Namibia,Botswana,Angola,Lesotho,Seira-Leone,Liberia,Ivory Coast,Gabon, Seychelles,Ghana.
An interim Mister Africa International will be appointed online in November until March next year.
